The time has finally come, welcome to the KNS blog!
It’s not just for SEO, promise. My heart for Kendall Nicole Studios is to build a true relationship with my clients and celebrate them wherever they’re at from engagements to the wedding, to growing a family and everything in between. Part of celebrating these relationships means sharing their stories or, at least, what their stories mean to me. I’ll begin to post the stories of my clients along with some useful and interesting topics such as session prep tips and before & after shots. I’ll also be posting some of my personal projects including personal life and travel photos so you can get to know the person behind the camera. Right now Kendall Nicole Studios is just me, Kendall, but as the studio grows and more photographers and creatives join, their stories will be shared as well.
So here’s the plan: I’m going to start with 3 posts per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I’ll re-evaluate after a month or two how that’s going, but I’m being realistic!
So what's a better way to start a blog than by introducing myself! You may have seen my ABOUT section, but today I’m going to let you in a little bit more to who Kendall
OK, here we go:
Hello, I’m Kendall!
I live in the wonderful city of Denton, TX with my husband, David, and our brittany spaniel, Colt.
I’ve been a photographer for almost 4 years and photographing weddings for about 3, but I haven’t always known I was going to make it my profession. From a young age I’ve been an artist. My first canvas was a wall in the hallway and my first tool was a green crayon. I don’t remember it but my mom won’t let me forget. During my first semester of college I took a life drawing class and my life has never been the same. I was learning to draw using techniques used by the old masters and was learning to see the human figure in a way that I never had before.
I studied art on and off throughout the seven years I was in college, which brings me to the next part of my story. Like many millennials, I had NO IDEA what I wanted to do with my life and I changed my major at least seven times (I’m not exaggerating). Eventually I graduated from the University of North Texas with my Bachelor's in Integrative Studies with concentrations in business management, international studies, and PACS (public affairs and community service). Wow that’s a mouth-full! I find it funny that drawing or painting isn’t in there, but here I am today making art and a living with a camera, but I’m jumping ahead.
After graduation I began an internship at my church, The Bridge Church, where I was taken under the wing of the creative genius Alex, owner of Clay Fox Creative Alex is the one that taught me how to use a camera for the first time. He took me to his photo sessions and I assisted him for months. Soon I began photographing families and events at The Bridge. The first wedding I ever photographed was with Alex, I was actually the third photographer. I had one lens with an aperture of 3.5 and no flash (If you don’t know what that means, it’s not good, but I survived). About a year later I had the opportunity to meet the owner of a wedding photography studio in Dallas and I was hired as a second shooter.
The first year was a slow and steady process of learning how to shoot weddings. From reacting in an environment that’s fast paced with different lighting, to working with couples and posing. After about a year with the company, I started shooting weddings as the lead photographer. What was even more exciting was that I began to book weddings of my own! Kendall Nicole Studios began April 1st, 2016 and I became a full time photographer in September of 2016. In 2016 I photographed about 20 weddings and as of now I’ll be photographing 39 in 2017. Man that’s exciting!
Owning my own business has been a dream that I didn’t always know was possible. I wake up everyday thankful that this is real life. Writing this blog is the next step on this adventure, even if I’m the only one that ever sees it! If you’re reading this, thank you for following along and if there’s anything you want to hear, please let me know. Tomorrow I’ll be back with my first Wedding Wednesday post where I’ll show you the first wedding done by Kendall Nicole Studios.
